Toulon is port city located in southern France.
Why I chose to put Toulon on my to-visit list in addition to the coastal cities that are known as French Riviera ?
It’s a real hidden gem because usually people pass by to reach the other well-known cities such as Cannes and Nice ..
The military port of Toulon is the major naval centre on France's Mediterranean coast, & home of the French Mediterranean Fleet .
How to get there ?
A stay in Toulon is affordable, a 3 stars hotel is averaged at 70 Euros, whist a 5 stars hotel is around 120 Euros..
We booked a very nice & modern apartment , easy accessible and near the port for around 150 Euros/night .
Things to do
1. City walk: Place de liberté ; Opera house; Stade su Mayol; Fort St.Louis, les cathédrales , the fountains , the flea markets.
2. Take the cable car to Mont Faron - ( check below for details )
3. Swim in la plage du Mourillon
4. Go to the vivid port area at night ..
5. Make a boat trip to Seyne-sur-Mer - ( check below for details )
How to get to Mont Faron through Toulon's cable car/telefrique ?
It was so easy , we had this 2-3 hours trip in a refreshing morning.
Near stade Mayol, visit the tourism office .. ( actually visiting the tourism office is first thing you can do if youo dont know what to do )
•we got our ticket for almost half price ( 7.5€ ) than if we buy at the telefrique's station itself, the ticket comes with a full day pass on ALL public transportation ..
• A simpler ide from the bus station in front of the tourism office , bus 40 ( using the same card) , takes you easly, hop off at ( téléférique stop ) and voilà, you are there ..
Tip : since you have the tickets earlier, you don’t need to queue , enjoy the ride to Mont Faron with one of the best views of Toulon 😊😊
Have your drink préférée at the top of 584 meter , hike in the forest , and there is a zoo on top as well .
p.s : don’t throw the ticket .. you will use it later to go down .. go back by bus, wander more in the city, and also take the boat bus to the wonderful town Seyne-sur-Mer to have an afternoon dip in Les Sablettes plage 🏖
I downloaded RM app, Réseau Mistral
For a day at the beach :
Buses number 3 and 23 take you to discover a number of beaches at le Mourillon ..
Just check your nearest bus stop on the RM app and get your ride for less then 20 min you will be there.
How to get to Seyne-sur-Mer from Toulon for a nice day at Les Sablettes sandy beach ?
From Toulon port, take the bateau-bus . You can use the same card you used to get the ride on the cable car ..
Les Sablettes is a wonderful beach in Seyne-sur-Mer ..
Tip: bateau bus timings for both ways are indicated on the Réseau Mistral app .
In addition of Provencal specialty, seafood is everywhere on the port .. Just choose your favorite menu restaurant and enjoy your lunch/dinner in fron of the port with the best views ..
Have fun !
